Identification of Low-Molecular-Weight Nucleic Acid-Related Substances Secreted by Streptomyces aureofaciens.

Streptomyces aureofaciens growth in chemically defined medium is actively associated with the secretion of low-molecular-weight nucleic acid-related substances and is linked to low availability of phosphate. Thirteen pure compounds were isolated, of which seven were identified.

Neurotoxicity Induced by Environmental Low-molecular-weight Substances

The neurotoxicity of Parkinson’s disease (PD)-related tetrahydroisoquinolines (TIQs) and organotins is reviewed. PD is one of the most common neurodegenerative diseases among aged people and characteristized by the selective death of nigrostriatal dopaminergic neurons, but its pathological mechanism remains unknown. 1-Benzyl1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline (1BnTIQ), an endogenous brain amine, was...

Conagenin, a low molecular weight immunomodulator produced by Streptomyces roseosporus.

effect on T lymphocytes. Fermentations for the production of conagenin were done as follows. S. roseosporus was cultured in 500-ml Erlenmeyer flasks containing 1 10 ml of the autoclaved seed medium consisting of galactose 2.0%, dextrin 2.0%, soy peptone 1.0%, corn steep liquor 0.5%, (NH4)2SO4 0.2%, CaCO3 0.2% and one drop of silicone. The seed medium was adjusted to pH 7.4 with 1 n HC1 and was ...

Studies of Hypersensitivity to Low Molecular Weight Substances

2,4-dinitrophenylsulfenyl chloride (DSCl) and 2,4-dinitrophenylthiocyanate (DSCN) elicited allergic reactions of the delayed type when applied to the skin of guinea pigs and of human beings who had been sensitized by prior exposure to 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene (DF). DSCl and DSCN, together with 2,4-dinitrobenzene sulfonate (DSO(3)), constitute a clearly defined group of allergenic dinitrophenyl ...

Inhibition of chlorination in Streptomyces aureofaciens by nitriles and related compounds.

A number of nitriles and cyano compounds inhibited chlorination by Streptomyces aureofaciens. In most cases, this inhibition was enhanced by bromide. Methylene blue and p-amino-propiophenone reversed the inhibition to some extent.
